Lucy - Scarlett Johansson's gritty Scifi/Action flick

Mark Turner
Fantastic Almanac

Scarlett Johansson is Lucy, a woman trying to understand what has happened to her and what she has become. Written and directed by Luc Besson who gave us La Femme Nikita (Remade into Point of No Return) and The Fifth Element, gives us the best of both of his cinematic landscapes with a beautiful woman who is caught-up in a world beyond our usual concepts of reality.

Originally slated for an August opening, Universal decided to bump the release date to an earlier July opening, perhaps feeling more confident in the films ability to generate ticket sales and compete against this summers power-flicks. Maybe they were unsure about the stronger, gritter elements of the story?

Lucy, in theaters July 25th. Rated R
